Attention Illustrators!
SCBWI Eastern NY/Capital District is pleased to announce:

Illustrator Master Class
with Tim Gillner
Art Director, Boyds Mills Press


When: November 17th, 2007, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., registration opens at 8:30 a.m.
Where: Dominican Retreat & Conference Center, 1945 Union Street (Rt. 7), Niskayuna, NY 12309, 518-393-4169 see Directions
What: An intimate workshop of 30 illustrators focusing on the craft and process of children's book illustration.

You may participate in one of two ways:
Full Participant ($110): Geared for experienced illustrators. Fifteen illustrators will choose from a selection of manuscripts, do a preliminary sketch for a two-page spread, receive art direction on the sketch from Tim via e-mail, and come to workshop day with final art for open critique. See deadlines below.
Half Participant ($55): Fifteen illustrators will arrive on workshop day to listen and learn from the open critiques, and participate in conversation and Q & A.

Deadlines:
October 1: Initial sketches due
October 19: Revised sketches due (optional)
November 17: Illustrator Master Class

Tim Gillner is a graduate of the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, and has worked in the magazine, textbook, and trade book industry for the past twenty-eight years. He is the art director of Boyds Mills Press, where he is directly responsible for the design and art direction of all books, and taught book illustration for twelve years at Marywood University. He is a member of the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA), the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, and the Society of Illustrators in New York City. Tim resides in a 150-year-old farmhouse with his wife, a beagle dog, and four cats, and enjoys spending time in the outdoors.
